Smart and Healthy City Schiedam

In the context of the Smart and Healthy City program by the Dutch ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, macro.broekman was asked for a spatial study on Schiedam. The municipality of Schiedam and the ministry had selected multiple locations in Schiedam to study in depth, including the station area/Schieveste and A20 highway zone. Since these two areas are highly related to each other, both geographically and thematically, marco.broekman was requested to study these areas in conjunction to each other.

The project explores the societal issues of health around infrastructure with the methodologies of research by design and participation workshops. During the process concrete assignments are defined related to the Smart and Healthy City program, resulting in the formulation of a regional agenda with goals on both the short and long term. In addition, urban interventions are explored to demonstrate the possibilities of different alliances and development directions. A clear picture of the next steps in 2016 is drawn as a base for administration and management advices.
